Want a stripe ad running on your blog?

January 29, 2008 by zam

A fellow blogger has recently emailed me mentioning his interest about the cool little stripe ad I am running on my blog. Well I have an entire post for all of you if you too wanted a stripe ad running on your blog pages.

Ever since I have started to blog I always felt the need of a stripe ad and when I came across the post on johnchow.com about the stripe ads plugin, I didn’t give it a second think and installed the plugin right away. It is indeed a cool advertising feature because it is the absolute first thing that a reader sees and indeed it is not intrusive.

How do you install the plugin?

Pretty simple. All you have to do to get it running is to download the plugin, unzip and upload to your wordpress plugins folder. Or you can upload the zipped file and unzip it if your hosting supports zip file uploads. Mine is a Cpanel and Cpanel file manager lets you upload the zip file and unzip it later whenever you want.

Go to your wordpress plugins section and activate the Max Blogpress Stripe Ads. Go to your wordpress options section under MBP stripe ads you can customize the look and enter your ads to show up.

How do you enter ads?

The plugin made it incredibly simple. All you have to do is to get the correct link and think for an eye catching title. MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad allows you to open the link in a new window and you can even apply weight which helps to determine how often do you want the ads to appear. Ad deletion is easy, just check and delete.

If you are wondering, I would suggest you to check the ‘Stick on the top of the page’ option to make it sticking to the top of the page all the time.

Customization

Ad customization is pretty simple with MaxBlogPress Stripe Ads plugin. There are options to change the font style, size and color for font, background and the border. Additional options include how many time do you wish your ads to show up. Good news for Clickbank affiliates. Want to show your clickbank products? Just enter your clickbank ID.

How linkbuilding can help your blog

January 25, 2008 by zam

Linking out to other blogs can increase your traffic. Lets check out how sending out visitors to other blogs help you to increase your own traffic.

Linking out to other blogs is an easy way to attract traffic to your own blog. Have you been thinking that outbound links would drive visitors away from your site? You are wrong. a good linking strategy helps to increase the traffic of your blog.

Linking to other blogs actually helps. How?

It not only helps your readers to find interesting and valuable information related to what they are reading on your blog, it also helps the other blogger to receive more traffic. This traffic is very valuable and targeted and are interested in the content they find. As you would only link to valuable content, that perfectly matches the topic of the post the link is in, readers who click the link to go deeper into the topic are interested in it, otherwise they wouldn’t have clicked.

Outbound links to other blogs do not directly help you with your search engine rankings, but it helps you getting more visitors. Other bloggers will try to give back the link love you gave them.

Whenever you link to another blog from a blog post on your blog, a trackback will show up in the comments section of the post, you have linked to. which might get you some additional visitors to your blog.

Link out smartly

Don’t just link for the links sake. First is to really care about what you are linking to. You should only link to high quality relevant content. Remember, that having a link into your blog post represents a recommendation given by you. By linking to crappy content, you kill your readers. Your readers trust you, otherwise they would not read your blog. Do not disappoint them by linking out to irrelevant content.

Link out not only with the bigger blogs. Look around for smaller and informative blog posts so you can link out with them wisely. While the big blogs might be able to send you some decent traffic, the smallest blogs can provide you a link with a valuable content. This way you build a blog community, reputation and a must read blog.

Google goes cheap with affiliates! Cutting back to save money?

January 23, 2008 by zam

Google is again the talk of the town for going cheap by reducing the payouts for google pack and Firefox downloads!

Google Pack: You can earn up to $2 when you refer an user through your link who downloads and runs Google pack for the first time. Starting the third week of February you will earn up to $1 per successful pack downloads referred by you. Well the good news is it is independent of user location or publisher location!

Firefox: Sad news for the Chinese publishers. Google will be reducing payments for Firefox referrals from china during the third week of February. This will only affect incase of installations from users in China.

We understand that these changes may decrease revenue for some of you currently participating in these referrals programs. While it is our goal to help publishers earn as much as possible with the AdSense program, like any other referrals advertiser, we are constantly evaluating our campaigns to make them effective and sustainable.

Apart from the bad news, Google did add a good news for the adsense referrals from Japan and Latin America by allowing them to promote their adsense referral account.

I believe Google has messed things up when they made adsense ad unites less clickable. Markus at plenty of fish reported that the CTR on text adsense ad units has declined about 60% in the last two months!

It is clear like day light that Google revenues are down and that they are trying to take back the control no matter what, even if that means taking it from the affiliates. I wonder if they will ever fix some of their problems to gain back the popularity among users.
