Kimi Raikkonen Wins 2008 Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix

After a disastrous race for both the Ferrari and Kimi on Melbourne, Kimi Raikkonen wins in Malaysia, Robert Kubica finished second and McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen came in third, while his team mate Lewis Hamilton, the Australian GP winner finished fifth. Fernando Alonso finished 7th!

It was a bad day for Felippe Massa. On his 31 lap he spins out of track and left the place open for Robert Kubica. Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were straggling really hard to make it to the pole but bad for them, they just couldn’t make it. Once again it was an awesome day for my man Kimi. The car was perfect as well as the track, just another easy win for Kimi.

The track in Malaysian is a brilliant one. It is indeed a beautiful fast track which allows you to go flat out listening to the sound of those engines roaring at their limits. It was absolutely thrilling to watch the onboard camera view of the car that is already speeding over 300 Km/h!
Here is the complete list,

Lewis Hamilton wins 2008 Australian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton of McLaren won Australian Grand Prix on Sunday after the accident filled season opening race. Hamilton started from pole position and was never seriously threatened before finishing the first race of the season. Nick Heidfeld from BMW sauber F1 team grabbed the second place and Nico Rosberg from Williams has finished third.

It was indeed a bad day for defending champion Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari. He ran out of gas as he entered the pits with only five laps to go. Only 7 of the 22 cars on the grid finished the 58 lap race. For four cars the race ended at the first corner with 2005 GP winner Giancarlo Fisichella skidding off in the Force India team’s debut. Mark Webber and Honda’s Jenson Button were also among the five cars out by the end of the first lap!

Fernando Alonso has finished fourth following by Hamilton’s McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen with a brilliant driving effort. He was incredibly awesome on track with that McLaren, he was absolutely flying. He’s been the fastest driver for quite a while on the race!

Raikkonen moved up from 15th place to third place on the 30th lap before running into the gravel after an overtaking maneuver on Kovalainen. It would have been a cool overtaking maneuver and could have changed the whole picture of the race just if he wouldn’t have messed it up all there. Well good luck for the next race Kimi. Lets hope to see more drama in Malaysia next week.

Fuel appeal verdict, Kimi might loose his world champion title to Lewis Hamilton.

Everybody knows that BWM and Williams are considered to be penalized at the Brazilian Grand Prix but recently McLaren is seriously considering not to penalize Williams and BMW after they used the fuel which was below the permitted temperature. It’s just a matter of time if FIA upholds the appeal, Kimi will loose his title to Mclaren’s Lewis Hamilton.

However Hamilton says he has no interest in wining a world championship title on court which he lost on the track.

“It would feel weird after Kimi did such a fantastic job in the last two races,” Hamilton said. “He won here yesterday and to have that taken away would be cruel. It wouldn’t be good for the sport. I am sure the team are doing the appeal for good reasons but, as a team, we want to win it on the track. As a driver, it is over and done with - the championship is settled.”

Lewis finished seventh in Brazilian Grand Prix, the last race of the season, behind Williams Nico Rosberg, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld of BMW. If all of them are excluded from the race, Lewis might be promoted from seventh position to fourth. This will secure him the championship without a doubt.

The temperature of the fuel used in Williams and BMW supposed to be within 10 degrees of the ambient air temperature and It is found on the pit-stops that both BMW and Williams were using the fuel with the temperature under 10 degrees. So what’s the catch about colder fuel? Well it makes the refueling process quicker and gives the car a small power boost. If the car gets faster for a fraction of a second, things can easily be turned upside down, we are not talking about marathons, we are talking about Formula one where fraction of a second is enough to secure pole position.

However there was insufficient evidence to prove that they used the cold fuel and a FIA spokesman had said that even if something goes wrong, changing the race result is an infringement of the rules.

Although I’m a big fan of Kimi Raikkonen, I like Lewis because of his undeniable talent and gentle behavior. I think Nico Rosberg, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld deserve the places they secured after such tremendous hard work on track.
